About Keele University Chapel
The Chapel is a Local Ecumenical Partnership (L.E.P.) Chapel.
All Christian denominations are represented; we have: a full time Anglican Chaplain, a part-time (i.e. term time only) Free Church Chaplain, a full-time lay Roman Catholic chaplain and part-time R.C. Priest Chaplain.
(See Chaplaincy Team for more details)
What do we offer?
Worship:
We provide many opportunities for worship, both ecumenical and within particular denominational traditions.
The East Chapel is open throughout the week for personal prayer and quiet.
Most mid-week services are held in here.
The Space (accessed through the East Chapel) is always open for individual prayer and reflection for those of any faith or none.
Discussion and Debate:
The Chaplaincy aims to stimulate thinking about the Christian faith and contemporary issues through discussions, debates, Bible study and talks. We currently run a CSP (Complimentary Studies Programme) module in the spring semester.
Pastoral Counselling:
The Chaplains are available to all members of the University for help in resolving problems, for longer term informal counselling, or just for talking things over in a relaxed atmosphere.
This is available to everybody, regardless of religious belief. Please feel free to contact us at the Chapel or at home.
The Foyer: The Chapel has an open area for meeting friends, to relax and to make tea and coffee. Open all day, every day.
Library:
Books can be borrowed from the Chaplaincy Library.
Building Bridges:
Within the University,between the University and the Church and between different members of the Body of Christ on campus; we work as a team alongside Christians and non-Christians, students and staff, to further God’s Kingdom and the search for justice and peace.
What does the Chapel stand for?
Below is a copy of the the chapel’s “statement of intent”. It can be found hung on a wall just inside the door at the west end:
Keele University Chapel - Local Ecumenical Project Statement of Intent
We, the ministers and congregations, worshipping at Keele University Chapel, Anglican, Free Church and Roman Catholic:
confess together our faith in the one Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, according to the scripture;
rejoice that we are bound together in the knowledge, love and service of Christ;
acknowledge out calling to serve God and proclaim the Gospel in this University and in the wider world;
give thanks for all that we share; and seek forgiveness for all that hinders our oneness in Christ.
We affirm our intent to work and pray for that unity which is Christ’s will and prayer for His Church.
We commit ourselves to joint prayer, fellowship, learning, witness and service, all the while respecting each other and each other’s traditions and disciplines.
So, venturing together in faith, we seek:-
to grow in the knowledge of and obedience to God’s truth,
to build up the whole body of Christ,
and to work for the reconciliation of all believers in Christ.
We pray that the Lord Jesus Christ will guide us and strengthen us in our intent.
In token of this pledge, we commend each other to the Grace of God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Adopted at an inaugural service on 26th February 1985.
