Ray Bayliss

Mr Ray Bayliss OP

Ray is our full time Catholic Lay Chaplain. He lives for the moment at ‘The Cottage’ which is the Catholic Chaplaincy house in Keele village, alongside Allison his wife and ‘Baggins’ their dog.

They are busy preparing to move the Catholic Chaplaincy house to a Campus address in the near future.

Ray joined the Chaplaincy team in the Autumn of 2004. A native of Liverpool, he has lived in North Staffs since coming to Keele as a student in 1983 to study History and Politics.

He was Keele Students Union Vice President for External Affairs in 1985/86, and because of this has the honour to have been Keele’s one and only Foreign Secretary (he’s happy to explain this in more detail if you ask him).

From graduating in 1987 to coming to Keele once more as Lay Chaplain  Ray’s career was mainly in the voluntary/charity sector.

Ray was an active Chapel member in the 1980’s. He sees his call to be Catholic Lay Chaplain as an opportunity to repay his debt to the community that helped to form him in his faith.

Ray is a Lay member of the Dominican order (Order of Preachers). He has a theological/catechetical Masters Degree from The Maryvale Institute.

Allison is also a Keele graduate, a Chartered Accountant and now shares in his ‘ministry of hospitality’- much of which takes place at ‘The Cottage’.
