There are loads of opportunities to get involved in music at chapel, whether as a musican, singer, or on the technical side. There is also a whole range of groups whatever your background or ability.
TEN:15 Worship Band
The Ten:15 band helps to lead the worship on Sunday mornings. We are always on the look out for singers, guitarists, drummers, pianists, and any other instrumentalists, as well as people willing to help with technical stuff (setting up amplifiers, soundesks, and digital projectors).
Rehearsals are usually arranged as convenient during the week, depending who is involved, and 9.30am on Sunday mornings. Speak to Charles (Anglican chaplain) or Ruth (Free Church chaplain) to find out more.
CMG or Catholic Music Group
CMG performs much the same role as 10:15 Worship Band, but for the Catholic Mass at 12 noon on Sunday mornings. The rehearsal is around 11am in the music department, whilst the 10.15 service is finishing.
If you want to support this group of singers in the mass, then try catching Peter after the mass on Sunday and introduce yourself. Peter de Cruz is responsible for the CMG, and can usually be identified as the man playing the piano with a big smile, and sometimes a stylish hat.
Chapel Singers
Chapel Singers is the chamber choir which started up around 1992. It performs one concert each term in the chapel, and draws from a very wide range of music, both secular and religious. Items in the past have included: Beethoven’s mass in C, Summertime from Porgy and Bess, and Old Man River.
The Late Service Band
The Late Service Band is a collection of musicians with a wide range of styles and abilities that come together to provide an informal, modern worship at The Late Service (a student-led ecumenical service) on a Sunday evening in the Chapel.
See the Groups page for more information and contact details, or come along to the service and introduce yourself there.
Revelation Rock Gospel Choir
“Rev” is a choir group that sings songs from a wide range of material, mostly for pleasure but often also performing as part of larger services and events. See the Groups page for more information and contact details.
Christian Union
Keele University Christian Union usually has lively and modern worship at their Wednesday evening services and has a Worship Co-ordinator post on their Executive Committee.
See the Groups page for more information and contact details, or come along to the service and introduce yourself there.
