Music in the Chapel
For the more musically minded among us there are various ways to get involved in the Chapel…
There are various groups which either practice in the chapel, or perform in the chapel. These are:
10:15 Music Group and Choir is the group which plays music and sings at the 10.15am service on Sunday mornings. The rehearsals are 7:00pm on a Friday night, and 9.30am on Sunday mornings - both in the main chapel. Singers and musicians are all very welcome.
CMG or Catholic Music Group performs much the same role as 10:15 Music Group and Choir, but for the Catholic Mass at 12 noon on Sunday mornings. The rehearsal is around 11am in the music department, whilst the 10.15 service is finishing.
If you want to support this group of singers in the mass, then try catching Peter after the mass on Sunday and introduce yourself. Peter de Cruz is responsible for the CMG.
Chapel Singers is the chamber choir which started up around 1992. It performs one concert each term in the chapel, and draws from a very wide range of music, both secular and religious. Items in the past have included:
- Beethoven’s mass in C
- Summertime from Porgy and Bess
- Old man river
